PRP Treatment for Hair Loss

Your own platelets, put to work on your scalp.

A small sample of your blood is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the platelet-rich plasma is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. The growth factors those platelets release are the treatment.

What it is

The treatment, without the brochure gloss

PRP — platelet-rich plasma — starts with an ordinary blood draw. The sample is centrifuged to separate and concentrate the platelets, which are then injected in a grid across the thinning zones of the scalp.

Platelets are the body’s repair couriers: they carry growth factors that stimulate blood supply, wake resting follicles and extend the growth phase of miniaturising hairs. Concentrating them where the scalp is struggling is the whole idea — no drugs, no donor tissue, nothing your body didn’t make itself.

Honesty note: PRP thickens and stabilises existing hair. It does not create new follicles — nothing injectable does. On a shiny bald area, PRP has nothing left to rescue; that is transplant territory.

How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

    Blood draw

A standard tube from your arm — the same as any blood test.

  2. 2

    Centrifuge

The sample is spun to concentrate platelets several-fold above baseline.

  3. 3

    Scalp injections

The plasma is injected in small doses across the thinning zones. Tolerable without anaesthetic; topical numbing available.

  4. 4

    Repeat on schedule

A course of 3–4 sessions about a month apart, then maintenance once or twice a year if it is working for you.

Who it suits

  • Early-to-moderate thinning with follicles still alive
  • Supporting medication — PRP pairs well with finasteride/minoxidil
  • Post-transplant healing and density support
  • Patients who want a drug-free option

Who it doesn't

  • Fully bald, shiny areas — there is nothing left for PRP to stimulate
  • Anyone expecting a transplant-level change from injections
  • Active scalp infection, certain blood disorders — screened before treatment

Our honest grading

We grade PRP’s evidence for pattern loss as moderate: real studies, real responders, modest average effect. Roughly a third of patients respond well, a third somewhat, a third barely — and nobody can reliably predict which you’ll be beforehand. We tell you that before you pay, and we photograph before the first session so the answer at month four is based on evidence, not memory.

Questions

Asked about PRP

The injections sting briefly — most patients rate it as easily tolerable, and topical numbing is available. You drive, work and train the same day.

Judge nothing before month three or four; shedding often slows first, thickness follows. We compare standardised photos, because mirrors lie in both directions.

Honestly, no. The protocol that has evidence behind it is a course of three to four sessions. A clinic selling you a single séance of PRP is selling an experience, not a treatment.

The right treatment starts with the right diagnosis.
