Low-Level Laser (Red Light) Therapy

Light at the right wavelength, used as a follicle stimulant.

Low-level laser therapy bathes the scalp in red light at wavelengths around 650 nanometres — enough to stimulate cellular energy production in the follicles, not enough to heat or harm. Painless, drug-free, and dependent on consistency above all.

What it is

The treatment, without the brochure gloss

Photobiomodulation is a real, studied phenomenon: red light in the 630–680nm range is absorbed in the cells’ mitochondria, nudging up energy production and downstream repair signalling. Applied to the scalp on a regular schedule, it can push miniaturising follicles toward a longer, healthier growth phase.

Treatment is as undramatic as medicine gets: you sit under the light array for a quarter of an hour, feel mild warmth at most, and leave. The catch is rhythm — the studied protocols involve multiple sessions weekly, maintained indefinitely.

Honesty note: the evidence for LLLT in pattern loss is moderate in quality and modest in effect size — real but unspectacular, and heavily dependent on device quality and consistency of use. It is a fine supporting layer and a good post-transplant healing aid. It is nobody’s rescue plan.

How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

    Baseline photos

Standardised photography first — modest-effect treatments need honest measurement most of all.

  2. 2

    Scheduled sessions

15–25 minutes under a clinical-grade light array, two to three times weekly.

  3. 3

    Optional home protocol

Quality home devices exist; we will tell you honestly which are worth the money and which are jewellery.

  4. 4

    Review at month four

Photo comparison decides whether the rhythm is earning its place in your plan.

Who it suits

  • Early thinning as a drug-free supporting layer
  • Post-transplant recovery — gentle support for healing grafts
  • Patients who will actually keep the schedule
  • Combining with medication for additive effect

Who it doesn't

  • Anyone seeking a standalone fix for progressing pattern loss
  • Bald areas
  • Patients who will abandon the rhythm after three weeks — consistency is the entire mechanism

Our honest grading

Red light therapy is pleasant, safe and mildly effective — a description that sells poorly, which is why the industry prefers louder words. We offer it in exactly that frame: a legitimate supporting layer whose results depend on showing up, photographed honestly so you can see whether it earns its slot.

Questions

Asked about Red Light Therapy

For pattern loss: modestly, with decent supporting studies — thicker, better-quality hair rather than dramatic regrowth. Device quality and consistent use decide most of the outcome.

Yes — it is one of the gentler things you can do for a healing scalp, and we often include it in post-operative support once the initial healing window has passed.

Clinical arrays are stronger and the schedule actually happens. Good home devices are a reasonable maintenance tool — ask us which are legitimate before buying; the market is half optics, half ornament.
